I will try and get my thread from CT over here , but got a question? This weekend will be 4 weeks , weeds are thick because of rain after planting and I would have messed up the field with tracks and couldn't spray a pre emergence. My research shows at 4 w3ks I can use metsulfuron with little effect on sprigs. Anyone have any advise.

M5, a family member manages one of the regional grain company's locations out here. His reply for what it's worth:
Use at 8 weeks for Bermuda. All other grass 6 months. I would not expect a great kill or good spectrum with MSM. Mowing might be best.

I got a message into a big Bermuda sprig guy out in Texas to see what he thinks. It still may require me to run a test plot to see.

The guy that spriged my field recommended, MSMA at 1qt to the acre, and MSM60 at 3/10ths ounce to the acre, with a quart of surfactant per 100 gallons of water.

My research shows at 4 w3ks I can use metsulfuron with little effect on sprigs. Anyone have any advise. I ain’t no expert Dash but I use metsulfuron a lot. I started with Cimmarron, then switched to Escort or Metcel bc it is about half the price. Depending on rate I can usually spray for about $2-$3 per acre. I really like it because it’s cheap, gives a pretty broad spectrum of effectively controlled species, and it’s relatively safe. I DON’T THINK it will hurt the young Bermuda. Mowing is definitely very beneficial to young Bermuda and will help it spread for sure. I can put in a call to my local extension agent if you’d like me to. Also MSMA is not labeled for grass here. But I still use it periodically and it will flat clean up a hayfield better than anything else. It will sometimes burn mature Bermuda so I wouldn’t recommend it for young Bermuda.

The label on my metsulfuron is 8 wks I have used metsulfuron on my established 85 fields with success on Bahia . I always fertilize about a week later and the Bermuda never gets yellow. I'm just impatient. I will put fertilizer out Friday if rain chances are still good and then maybe wait a couple more weeks before I spray it to get crab grass. I can get the broadleaf with a dose of 24d any time now.

My new coastal field. Pics include the pond I dug solely for irrigation. My pline irrigation system in action several weeks ago. A pic from the same spot today. Gave the thicker part a trim while the cutter was hooked up Wednesday. best free image hosting

Fence, I'd be interested in knowing a little more about your irrigation system. Maybe create a new thread where we can see how it works?

Will do this evening. I literally stumped my toe on it. I'll get some info together and post. If you have a good water source, it's the cats azz.

How long has it been planted ? Right around first of March. Sprigs arrived at the same time I was under the gun to make deadline on a large commercial job. We worked day and night getting them in and making the construction deadline.
