My oldest older sister (79) has been doing chemo and she seems to be doing good so far (heck..she was on a jet ski yesterday) but Wed morning, my youngest older sister (75) went to the E-room dizzy. Still in ICU but alert and can walk/talk etc, but the general consensus is that she's had a stroke. She's the one that has been healthy as a horse..when they asked her about her doctor, she had to tell them she hadn't seen a doctor since 1989, so she's probably going to wind up with them finding all kinds of things wrong...like diabetes, since she's the only one in my family that wasn't yet.
Thanks

Greybeard, prayers have been sent out for your younger older sister, as well as the oldest older. I also hope that she has no other health issues.

Well, she's on her way home. Hard to find anything out in a hospital over a holiday and weekend, but it appears the stroke was caused by high blood sugar. As I said, she hasn't seen a doctor since 1989..just never sick other than a cold or congestion and maybe the flu once every 4-5 years. Doesn't even have a primary care (or any other kind of doctor. She will now.
Turns out, she has type 1 diabetes and never knew it. Her A1C is somewhere over 12, and it needs to be 1/2 that. Her fasting Glucose (after being there with nothing to eat or drink for 24 hrs) was 528. Probably been diabetic for years, but she will now be on insulin injection for the rest of her life. She still gets dizzy if she's up for long, but the docs think the part of her brain that was damaged, that function will be replaced in another part of her brain. Going to be on a walker for sure and her whole life is now changed.
Oddly enough, she's the one in our family that has always eaten "healthy". Home raised eggs, skinless chicken, lots of green veggies, never drank or smoked. LOTS of physical exercise..the energizer bunny when it came to yard and garden work. You just never know I guess. Thankful it wasn't worse and thankful for the prayers.

Prayers sent for her GB. If the truth was known, reason she has been so healthy for the last 30 years is because she's stayed away from Dr's.
