Going to fly some cover crop onto standing corn. Thinking rye, turnip, tillage radishes. Anybody have experience with anything better to add grazing value to corn stalks?

I've run rye and turnips for years. I really like the turnips. A lb of turnip seed makes a dump truck full of forage. I plant about 2 lbs an acre. If you haven't had your cows on turnips before they may not take to them right away, soon they will be pawing up the roots wanting more.
I don't know what you could do better.

Where are you located Jake? This subject have always interested me but everything I've found on it has always been for way South of me North central Kansas. With the amount of rain we keep getting we are flying fertilizer on to try to up our production goals. Been wanting to add some additional feed resources as well.

We’ve used radishes. Cows loved it. It was amusing to watch them pull them up.
But here, if we were doing a cover over corn, we’d do rye.

I like ryegrass and oats and maybe some wheat but that might not work where you are.

I wouldn't be afraid to throw in some kind of legume. They add feed, and nitrogen value, and are easy to kill next spring if you go that route. Maybe some winter peas, or crimson clover, although the clover will need to be at 10-15 lbs/ac to do well.

Seems like last time we threw some turnips in with the rye, it was after the first frost they really started after them. The wide roots of the radish will help open up the ground to moisture a little as well. Tried them with notill. Mix ain't a bad idea. But I think the grains will get you more pasture.

Dumb, The first year I tried the turnips it was the last thing they touched. The following year, and every year since, it's the first thing they go for. Frost or not, they hit the turnips hard. I think they didn't know what to do with them at first 😁
