Recently saw an advertisement from one of our regional companies, saying that there was a lower commission if there were 30 head on a ticket, previously it had been only a lower rate on a group of 40 hd. or more in one lot. That one company owns 7 stockyards in this region and another company has 3 or 4. There is some overlap of their customer bases so there has been some competition between them.

Better have their ducks in a row if they’re gonna compete with Okeechobee Livestock Market. Looks like it’s all new. Bet that cost a wooden nickel or two.

There is only 7 sales left in the entire state of Oregon. Washington is worse with only 4 left. Competition is not an issue. It is more like how far do you want to drive. I can think of 13 sale barns in Washington that I have ether been to or knew of that are gone.

There are a couple other sale barns in the vicinity - and by that I mean a good 45 miles away. Very little competition here.

There are a couple other sale barns in the vicinity - and by that I mean a good 45 miles away. Very little competition here. There are 4 within a 25 mile radius of here, 3 are owned by the same company. There are 4 more with around a 60 mile radius, 2 of those are also owned by the aforementioned company, and the other 2 are pretty small markets. I am glad that we have each of those options available, as our local stockyards burned down in the 80's, and the city wouldn't let them rebuild. Several smaller yards have closed down across the state. I would estimate some folks in the eastern part of the state may have to drive 100 miles or more to get to one of the larger markets.

2 within 10 miles and 7 more within 100 miles. But none are large so we get taken advantage of.

2 within 10 miles and 7 more within 100 miles. But none are large so we get taken advantage of. The closest barns to me are 80 miles in two different directions in different states. Then it’s 110-130 miles to the next ones. Those are where I buy. Its 440 to where I sale.
