Good to hear and thanks for sharing. My mother had the option of an experimental heart valve at Emory (or else!) in the 70's. We had her around for 30+ years because she took a risk and the staff and drs were great. Was it a pig heart valve? I believe cow heart valves are also used as replacements. Unbelievable what science can do! The additional 30+ years is amazing, you were very blessed. It was the experimental model of the pig valve. They had done 5 or her's was the 5th or some sort of timing. It was different from later models due to the reinforcement and shape. It lasted 12 years and a leaflet broke off on one side. Another pig valve was put in then and it let her live out her life. Apparently modified bovine valves are more common now. If I remember right the original valves were shipped over from Israel. She was a trooper.

TC, it has to be a great feeling to finally find a doctor who can analyze a problem and improve your husband's life. All the things we work and strive for all change when our health diminishes. May he keep improving.

I hope that each day that goes by, things keep on getting better. We never know what the future holds for any of us, and these times show us how strong we really are. I hope he returns as close to normal as he can. He is lucky to have you at his side.

Thanks for the well wishes! Follow up with his cardiologist this Friday; we're both anxious what he says. He's still having good days & bad days but it will take time.

Take the good when they come, and we'll pray they become more plentiful. Keep us updated. Thanks, I (we) will! He did have one unfortunate setback when his heart rate was off the charts but that's because he unknowingly heated up a bowl of what he thought was homemade vegetable soup his cousin had caned. Yeah, no - it was hot salsa. And yet he kept eating until snot was flowing out his nose & his forehead was dripping sweat. Two days of torture ensued, not just abnormal sinus rhythm. But he's at least getting out and doing more stuff around the ranch .
