I ran up to the trough site this morning. Round trip took me two and a half hours on the quad. I got to the ridge above and past the spring. I was about a quarter mile from trough #2. There was a patch of sharp rocks to drive over. I got to thinking. No one knows I am here. It is supposed to be 100 degrees today. And a flat tire makes it a long hot walk. So i turned around.
This is looking across Sinker Creek at the site from my property. From the center of the picture go to the left. Where the junipers come up to the top of the ridge is trough#2. Almost to the right side of the picture is where troughs #3 & 4 will be located.
Looking down Sinker Creek. You get an idea how steep it is. My property is to the right side. BLM to the left. The troughs go up top of the ridge to the left.
The spring is down below me from where I took this picture. What looks like a road across the face of the ridge is from installing the new pipe line. That faint trail on the top of the ridge is the road. Where they intersect out the ridge is the site of trough #2.

Wow. I can't imagine working/living/raising livestock in that kind of terrain. Maybe, if I was still 30 sumpthin, bullet proof and invisible and still able to jump tall buildings...

Wow. I can't imagine working/living/raising livestock in that kind of terrain. Maybe, if I was still 30 sumpthin, bullet proof and invisible and still able to jump tall buildings... That is the reason for about three things. I leave gathering cows to the young fellows. They have lots of good dogs to assist them. And when cows get turned out you may not see them until fall. The tops of those hills are up around 5,000 feet. Down in the bottom it is around 2,700 feet. Any cows missed in the gather show up down along the river once the snow starts (there is a decent road there in the bottom).

Dave you just need a couple of them Kentucky guys to come and help you they are used to steep rough ground!!!! I offered to turn out some of bh bulls for a diet plan. I did get a good laugh when they talked about steep ground. I have to admit that Sinker Creek is about the worse stretch of ground around here. This is a picture to the southwest of that area. It is a lot milder country.

I don't own any mules.

The way this Kentucky boy would do it, would put the tire in the pasture. These bulls of mine would have it in the bottom of that holler in a week. Unless stubby gets another mineral barrel stuck on his head.

Skidder tires make pretty good water tanks.

They want 4 by 10 aluminum troughs. I priced them out at just about $1,000 apiece. They are paying for the troughs and other material. They just wont pay us for the installation. There are a fair number of tire troughs around here. They are pretty heavy which doesn't work for this site. Getting them there would be an issue.

Sounds like an easy job for a small helicopter like the ones they use to spray herbicides. Any of those around?
