We fed the cows 4 lbs of sweet feed per head and then sprayed them for flies Thursday. Then we put out 8 rolls of hay and left for the weekend. This morning while we were checking cows we noticed their poop is almost black any ideas on what happened or is going on? Should I be worried about nitrates because the bahia was fertilizer heavy 2 1/2 weeks before I cut it?

Sweet feed itself is pretty dark, and ive found molasses makes the patties dark as well

Hook is spot on from what I have seen. Same thing when you feed tubs

Thanks, we haven't fed tubs for years and usually use range cubes to trap them to spray for flies.

How much iron are they getting? I've heard high amounts can darken the color.

I have no exp with bahia, but I do know sorghums, and johnson grass types will turn it black colored.
