Im looking to put one in the house. I like wood, but dont like the mess or the work. We also want the back up heat, vs just electric heating. They seem easy to put in. I can put it in one corner, drill a hole through the floor and run the supply line to a 100 gallon propane tank either in the crawlspace (6 ft clearance there) under the house or just outside the house at the same area. Isnthere anything im missing here?

I have had one since 1999 and IMO the best thing since sliced bread. They are easy to put in and it sure beats all the wood dirt/expense/work etc. Every year I will take compressed air and clean real good and that is about it. I have three 25 gal tanks and get them refilled for about $45 each and usually 4 tanks does me. I have a splitter valves when one tank gets empty just turn the other on. You can control the heat unlike wood and it is good heat unlike a furnace unit when the temp gets below 25 degrees. If the electricity goes off you still have heat, but the fan does not work. A lot of people say a fan is not needed, but I disagree.

I would like to have one of those some day. Right now we have a wall mounted propane heater, with a small upright tank directly on the outside from it. It doesn't look near as good as those fireplaces, but does a real good job of warming things up when needed. We have an electric heat pump, and just have that as a back up, or to warm things up a bit if it is real cold.

I went ahead and ordered it, went out and picked up and filled a 100# propane tank and the pressure regulator. Guess ill hold off on lines until I see what size fittings it has.

Nothing to due with your question but I looked into one for my little bunkhouse. It’s spray foamed and nearly airtight so I decided to not take a chance. But in my research I read a lot about air quality, water vapor and etc. Most everything I read said to get a vented heater. It not a big deal to run a vent outside.

I have a ventless propane fireplace. It does heat things up but only use it when the electricity goes out for a really long time. What I don't like about it is that it leaves a film on all the windows. So I am sure it is leaving a film on everything else too. We had an ice storm some years ago, and were without electricity for about 3 days. I fired it up then.

The newer ones burn 99% efficient, have built on o2 and Co detectors. Im also backing it up with our co detector that we had with the wood fireplace

I cleaned up some two old Dearborn heaters and put them back in service 15 or so years back. (My propane guy almost had a fit.) They sure keep the central unit quiet. Love 'em!
