The wife's brain was in gear the other night and she blurted out that she wished she had a small stock tank in the weaning pasture. Granted, we only have about 3 acres total and only the west side which is about 1.75 acres would catch water. The other side is just too flat. That just happens to be the side of where the aerobic sprinkler heads spray and she's afraid of the run off contaminating the tank. I don't have a clue, but I'm guessing there wouldn't be a sufficient amount to hurt anything. Figured I'd start with y'all on my search for knowledge. I think we could get 1/2 acre pond to fit in that area.

I don't see that there would be a problem. We had an aerobic system at one time. We loved it.
You aren't running raw sewage into the stock tank.

I don't understand the aerobic system well enough to explain why I think were running decent water out of it except to tell her that the tablets go in and non-stinky water comes out. Thanks for your input!

Have you had the water tested? I know they are chlorinated but some nasty bacteria could still be in the treated water.

What is she worried about the water harming.? The cattle are going to shit in the tank more than you are.

Our horses in the pasture next to the house drink more out of the sewer lagoon than they do the creek. I asked the vet about it and he said no to worry about it, and apparently he was right because it's been going on for years.

I have an aerobic system. (A Clearstream 500 brand) I've never tested the theory, but the guys that installed it and do the yearly maintenance on it said the water coming out of the spray heads is clean enough to drink as long as you keep the chlorine tablets in it like you are supposed to, unless you have the optional liquid chlorine injector (I don't) The water coming out has no odor at all and sprays thru rainbird adjustable heads to any pattern I set them to. Half of it goes in the pasture and 1/2 of it goes into the yard.. It should never spray out enough to actually have any ground runoff. This is one of 2 spray heads mine has..looks like it's spraying at a high angle, but this photo was taken 11 hrs before Hurricane Harvey put 4' of water over this very same location. Wind was blowing pretty dang good. I was just fixing to move the cows to what I thought was going to be high safe ground and thought it ironic, when I came back from moving wife's car to safety to see the aerobic system spraying out even more water when there had already been 35" of rain in 3 days. As you can see, there was no shortage of water even when i took the picture. Biggest trouble I have with it is that dang little compressor/aerator. Gotta rebuild it about every other year and parts ain't cheap. You can always re direct the spray head piping to move the heads to another location in your yard....there's nothing to it.

No water test and pretty sure there won't be unless she pushes it that far. Pretty sure y'all have covered my question. I tried to tell her that the calves eat the grass that gets watered by the spray heads, but there must have been something magical about it being pushed in the tank by the rain. Thought about extending the spray heads, but wasn't sure about it. Thanks! I appreciate it.
