Got a call from my Dil yesterday. Her and my son where clearing a job getting it ready. She says Chisholm has been stung by a bunch of bees and he's pretty sick.were coming in. Ok I said. I met them at their gate, my wife pulling up about the same time. When I saw him I pulled him out and stuffed him in the back seat of my wife's truck. I told my wife go and told my Dil to get in and get 911 on the phone. By the time they reached the hospital he was near unconscious and had filled the backseat with vomit. Thing is the doctor said it really wasn't a allergic reaction. It was just from so many stings. Three nurses spent a hour pulling stingers out.
He knocked down a tree with a hive in it. The bees filled the cab of the skidsteer. Damdest thing after stripping naked and getting the bees outta his clothes. he got him a cedar limb and fought his way back in to shut off the machine.
They released him a couple hours ago. I reckon I'm gonna let him have the day off.

That’s tough Fence hope he pulls thru good. Good thing he wasn’t allergic at all or that would have been disastrous. That is why whenever possible I do use loader or tractor with a cab to clean up or bushog. Hit a big yellow jacket nest the other morning cleaning up that brush. That door can be a pain trying to get in and out hooking up attachments etc. but I was glad to have it right then.
Best of luck to your son, y’all stay safe out there.

Wow, that sucks......or stings. Hope he's recovering well. Are those the Africanized Bees we hear about? Our wasps and bees are nothing like that, but if you start spraying the hell out of them with WD40, they can't fly if they get it on their wings, I've discovered.....'cause I spray WD40 on damn near everything. Might not work on southern bees. They sound meaner. Bee an interesting experiment.

You are letting him take the whole day off? You are getting soft in your old age! Tell him to walk it off and get back to work.

Glad he's okay. I've come close to that with a suit on and that is a miserable kind of sick and it doesn't go away quickly. The good news is that once he recovers he'll be pretty much immune to wasps and bees.

This time of year around here yellow jackets are mean little bastards. Fence if you will tie flagging around the brush cage where it will blow the bees will attack it instead of the operator. I have done that every fall when i was dozing. Glad he is doing ok.

i don't know about the immune idea. Back around 1981 or so I got into a yellow jack nest while falling timber. Got stung 40 or 50 times. Made me pretty sick. Ever since then if I get stung I swell up pretty good at the sting site. Much more than I did before that event.

My Granddaddy always had bee hives all his life. He still maintained them in his late 80's before he became sick. One day he decided he needed to do something to the hives, and accidently dropped one of the boxes and the bees swarmed him. For some reason, they could get up underneath his veil, and they were all over his face and neck. He walked back to the house, and my Grandmother said she was having to rake the stingers off his face. He was getting a reaction from the bee stings, so my Grandmother took him to the doctor. The doctor made the statement that he was tough to have had that many stings and it not to affect him any worse than it did.
When I see wasps swarming where I get into a nest, I want to start swinging and slapping. But it is surely hard to slowly walk away and hope that they don't come after me. I had rather step on a snake than to get into a nest of wasps.
Fence, glad to hear that your son is doing OK.

That falls in the category of one of my worst nightmares! That is super scary and I'm so glad your son will recover. Good to know about the immunity.

For me a paste made out of baking soda applied to the sting(s) as soon as possible reliefs both the sting and the swelling.
