Been a few years since we have experienced a drought. We are well below avg right now and holes are drying up quickly. Fwiw I do not like it.

No fun for sure pretty depressing here too, we are labeled in moderate drought, but looks severe to me. People are having to water cattle and hay didn’t turn out much this fall. We got a decent rain today finally but don’t think it will accomplish a lot at this point as far as pastures are concerned.

We must have received your rain. As of the end of Sept, the previous 12 months we've had over 64" of rain. Average yearly totals are in the neighborhood of 40".

The drought monitor doesn't tell the real story. This summer has really sucked for us. I've never seen it this dry.

Some have been feeding hay here in Va for over 2 weeks. We have been rotating cattle and will be okay for another few weeks except one place will have to bring them home. Started fall calving, have 3 heifers left to calve out of 10, all doing good. Cows getting going on fall calving. I have been hauling 200 gal water a day or every other day to supplement a spring that is running slow, but not dry. Calves can't get to the water when the trough gets real low so it helps to keep ahead of it. Temps finally cooled off about 20 degrees so much easier on the cattle and water needs. Got .3 inches the other day, 40 miles north they got 1.2 inches or more. Cutting some hay now, pretty thin, but fields have to be cut so no sense in bush hogging, we might need it this winter.

It is getting to the point around here if a rabbit was to visit it would have to bring its on food. We have had maybe half inch rain in the last 45 days and above average temps. I was talking to a guy yesterday who got back from a trip from DC to Maine and he said it was green all the way.

Spent last summer waist deep in mud sucking the last of the water out of ponds to water cattle. Started raining last September and hasn't quit since. Acres of crops not planted, people are still trying to hay. Can't drive pickup in fescue pasture, water standing everywhere. Still think that's better than a drought. GS

We had to almost quit cattle in 2007 drought. Fed a lot of corn stalks that winter. I will never again fuss about rain.
