I started a thread earlier here about a bull calf that just didn't grow for me. I've now convinced myself that he's a dwarf. Since never dealing with this my mind sometimes works overtime about it. Earlier today I wanted to post a discussion on a FB pied page about him to see if raising miniature pieds was in anyone's wheelhouse. The post wasn't approved and the response made me want to take a shower as it made me feel filthy for even thinking abut it.
Anyway, that made me even more curious and am wondering about breeding miniatures and maybe even starting an association for them as I know the purist don't want anything to do with them. Anyone have any advice or experience besides go drink a beer and forget it?

Don't make SimAngus break out his midget cowboy pictures to go along with your miniature pies.
Dr. Jon Beever at the University of Illinois has developed a reputation as being at the forefront of genetic anamoly testing.
Can be a lot of reasons why a calf gets stunted. Dwarfism is one.

I'll read up on it today and maybe figure out how far I'd like to take this. Thanks.

Neogen does both of our associations DNA work and I checked with them Friday about a test. I was told that no one has come up with a test for the Piedmontese breed. Sounded like there were for many others, but not Pieds.

Last I'd seen he was running a "mini" dude ranch.

Heifers need careful management their first time around. I had to pull several when I first started and a couple were dead. Lots of breeders will run a black calf thru them the first time, which they say helps a lot. Once I figured it out things have been better. Nebraska and the upper mid-west are popular states for Pieds and your husband friend sound like he is hooked up with Lone Creek Ranch/Certified Piedmontese on their contract plan.

My assumption as well. We ran into him at a dispersal, he was actually taking over the lease of the folks who were holding dispersal. We didn't get much time to talk because I was actually at dispersal to meet someone else to pick up a cow and get a peak at my favorite angus stud. Ran into the guys folks at our basketball game a day or two later and they filled us in on the pieds. Interesting cattle. Sounds like this fella is doing alright with this program. Wishing him best of luck.
