Yesterday morning we were on our way to church. We pulled off the freeway (I-84) at the western exit to Baker City. Took a left to go up over the over pass of the freeway. As we get to the top of the over pass I meet 200-300 mother cows head our direction. They were taking up the entire road. They were being assisted along by about a dozen cowboys. Judging by how sweaty a couple of the horses were they had already traveled a ways. We pulled clear over to one side to allow them to pass and continued on our way to church. You know that you are in cattle country when you have to yield to a herd of cows on the freeway over pass.

Better than yielding to a bunch crazed kayakers.

Where I lived over on the coast every year in June they had the Seattle to Portland bike ride. Literally 18,000 bike riders blocking traffic on their route. I was just thinking how much fun it would be to herd a couple hundred cows down the road on the day of their ride. Then the thought struck me of all those urban bike riders and the calling cards the cows would leave on the road .

Horse people often ride the hiking trails here and the hikers raise heck about that. I am sure the bicycle bunch would have a fit to.

There will always be people that complain about something. I wish I still owned a horse to ride on hiking trails as well.
