If I need to take it apart I just drive out the roll pin .

I have several of those slam latches. I learned the hard way, before I ever install one to weld a piece of 1" cold roll onto the pin, extending it out some. That way, if something happens to the latch post or if the gate gets bowed (effectively shortening overall length of the gate) the latch will still work right. If you can install the latch right over one of the horizontal tube on the gate, you don't have to drill thru the vertical tube...not always possible tho. Only real complaint I have with them is like someone stated above...sometimes I swing the gate too hard and the pin bounces back out before the square piece can drop down and capture the pin.

Latch installed. I mainly use these on 4' gates and bigger ones I might open 50 times. I always have chain backup. Just curious..how are you fastening those green panels to your wooden posts? I've been using 2 hole conduit straps and lag bolts.. and not real happy with them.

They work ok , I'd it's on the ends I drill holes in panels and use 4" screws.

I know you weren't asking me but, I use lag style eye bolts in the post and use either the pins on the panel or a piece of bent rebar

If you don't do some welding on this latch it isn't worth a darn under pressure situations. The slider will bend down freeing the striker if you don't weld a bolt inside the V. Here's a pretty good latch set up besides the striker needs to be welded or bolted to the gate. www.amazon.com/SPECIAL-SPEECO-PRODUCTS-S16100100-Latch/dp/B01707X31II can see that happening Vince. The ones in use at the moment, the catch mechanism is welded on stationary posts. Ones on home made gates are in good shape. But the purchased lighter sorting panel took a hit that made it a little cattywampus.
