We still make rock jacks. They are used for corners but in the middle of fences in places. Especially in low spots like draws and cuts where the wire would want to pull the post up. Most of the wood posts are juniper as there is a lot of that around. Actually a lot of the rock jack frames are made out of juniper because it is easier to pack in a saw than to pack in lumber a mile or so.

We have a freakin' ton of limestone! But limestone posts are more common in western KS. We do still have some "fences" that are stacked limestone - and falling apart. Used a lot of top pieces for the fireplaces when we built the house. Now you have no excuse and everyone knows what a Kansas fence post looks like. Blasphemy! Lol
