Wow its a cold one. My cows can barley walk so had to start throwing out some square bales as they are having a hard time getting to the hay feeder.
The black calf on the right is the only one I am keeping this year. Only because I love her mama. I call her "Lucky Girl". Little Red one in the back is a mini beef cow. She is a tiny little thing. About 6 years old. Has given me a calf every 11 months to the day, literally to the day, 3 years in a row. The calf next to her is 5 months old...gives you an idea of how mini she actually is.
The fiercest girl in my herd. Very awkwardly tall cow. She lost her first calf and we gave her another shot. She is an Angus X Holstein. I got her off a truck that was on its way to AB with veal calves and she wasn't doing so well and was only a day old. That was 3 years ago.
Our family bull. Actually....neighborhood bull

Frozen rough ground is kind of a pain for sure. 6” of snow would improve things quite a bit. Looks like your cattle are happy and healthy, thanks for the pics.
On a side note, it -31 here with 75% humidity. It feIt feels really nice out. Funny how -30 weather feels after it has been -40 compared to when it cools off to minus 30 from something much warmer.

Wow. You win. That's cold! If I keep my hands and feet warm I can survive it. We have a few hundred laying hens. That's what really gets us on these cold days.
We have a big dump of snow in the forecast for tonight and tomorrow. Supposed to warm up to -1 over the next few days.
Throwing those 60lbs bales this morning just about killed me.

Y'all can have all of that you want. For me, well I went bass fishing this morning. I really just wanted to get the boat out. Caught a few up shallow early on but it got kinda slow after that.

I totally understand how painful the frozen ground is on the cattle. They just barely creep around when it turns like that here. I hate they have to walk on it, but then it is kind of nice not to sink in 5-6" of clay mud to hit the bottom where the ground is solid. It is all I can do to be able to pull my feet out of it without falling over.
You have a lot on your plate with the hens and cattle, mostly with such low temps.

Warmed up today to 7C/44F. Much better! Snow is melting. Cows are happy.
I have these two steer out at a property we own at the top of a small mountain. I always worry about them because they seem to get the worst of the weather up there. I had our farm hand walk some square bales out to their shelter. I arrive to them sitting in a pile of hay at the gate! A good walk from the shelter. Watched the cameras back and they dragged the bales across the pasture and made themselves a bed out of it....
