Ha-ha!! I have had them tie up with skunks before. Usually they do it once and let the youngest one experience it by themselves. I keep a full supply of Hydrogen Peroxide and Baking Soda in the top of the closet in the bath room. I think I have quite a few quarts to wash each dog if I have to. Mix the two and add a big glob of Dawn dish soap. I read where their oil is stronger than most industrial oils and is extremely difficult to penetrate. It does as good of a job as I have found, but that faint smell of skunk is there for a while.
The skunks come out around the 1st of February here. So with them being a couple of weeks early, that really tells me we are going to have an early spring!! (In my mind) I get excited when I see the Robins as well. If they are here, that means the earthworms are coming to the top of the ground.

Our mother heeler must be a slow learner I think she has been skunked 3 times, and her pups once maybe they will do better. I have a funny memory from Sunday School several years ago. During the morning assembly part for the adult classes the assembly leader who happened to be one of my former agriculture teachers in high school opened by asking if anyone knew what February was known for, several folks took guesses but then he proceeded to say its skunk mating season. The robins missed some worms a couple days ago here after the rain I saw some decent sized ones on the concrete in front of the house.

The dog went to mud wrestling with a skunk last spring. The next morning I was about to leave to go get some skunk shampoo and the guy in charge of the irrigation water called. He said his dog got skunked and he fogged it down with WD-40. Sort of made sense since the skunk musk is oil based and WD-40 will cut oil. We tried it and it worked.

There is something about the process of oxygen being formed when mixing hydrogen peroxide with baking soda, then with the dawn soap that does the number on that oil. It sure makes a difference. Just be sure to add the soap to the baking powder and as you mix the hydrogen peroxide in, pour it on the dog quickly. You will feel it eating anything off your arms. It is a really weird feeling.
Dave, that is just not something you want to spend idle time doing with your dog. I like the smell of WD-40 myself. I guess I consider myself a sniffer of finer things. Ha-ha!!

Currently 23 here in east central KY, supposed to get 32 today. It’s been down as low as 15 the last couple nights. Back to 40’s tomorrow, I will be glad to see some 81 days but that will be a while yet here, though we have had a day or two in or around 70’s it just doesn’t stay that way long. Saw several robins out the other day when it was 25 I thought at the time they picked a bad day to come out of the woods.

Thankfully I no longer have apricots. They are the worst about budding. About once every 5 years I would actually get some apricots. The other years frost knocked them back.

Thanks Angus rancher,it is nice to get away and see different cultures, not going to see it as much on the resorts unless you go into town, the cooking in town is much better, like there jerk chicken and pork, everything is marinated for two days before they cook it, some of the best pork and chicken that I've had in a long time, not to mention the beans and rice.

24 degrees isn't going to kill no parasites, that's grill weather for us yanks and some of us redneck Yankees might be wearing shorts cooking out when it's that warm.😎
