ABS bought a new purebred Simmental Bull this past weekend. His EPDs are outstanding. Here are the EPDs from ASA: I have noticed that the big semen companies are honing in on EPDs. The Dam is nice the Sire is none other than Eagle. I Am Not Surprised At The Depth. I Have Two Eagle Calves Out There From Fall 2019. They Are Built Like Tanks. This is the sale picture from the catalog. I don't see a picture up yet by ABS.

I havnt bought from ABS in quite some time, for that reason. Numbers chasing. Nothing against them, and i'll buy if they bring a bull thru that will improve my herd. We are building a cow herd and need cow power. Not paper power. Everything we've bought lately is from SS and ST. Sure they pay attention to the numbers too, but not like ABS imho. Those cow families on the bottom side is the first thing I look at. Then the top sire and I go from there.

Especially as you said, you are building a herd. Some of my best calves have come from bulls with poor EPDs, example, Shell Shocked. This bull looks good. The depth and topline are great. Having said that, you cannot escape the fact that numbers influence bull buyers. They may be wrong, inexperienced, etc. Even on the forum. if a bull has poor EPDs, users like to bash those bad metrics. But at the end of the day, I personally cannot ignore numbers. When I get a call about a bull purchase, before the buyers look, they ask for the registration number. And If They Are Looking For A Specific Metric, They Inquire About The Next Bull.

Looks like a nice deep Rib on him. White Eagle is gonna be better right Ron. Think ABS is getting some better bulls the last year. I Like to try that On The Mark bull at some point. I'll have a few Goldmine's in around 2 weeks he's been in the lineup forever.

I like that bull a lot. He has a very nice top line and structure. As far as numbers go I think with the advancements in genomic testing they are getting to be really accurate. And like Ron mentioned the first thing a potential buyer is going to look at when buying a registered animal is EPD’s. Especially potential bull buyers looking for calving ease and other maternal traits. One really good thing about this bull is he’s an outcross to most of the mainstream Simmental lines.

Be nice if simmy's would get more of the non-angus type not number chasers bulls. I feel like the bulls from just ~10 years ago were much more balanced. I decided to keep 6y/o red sim bull for a lest one more year, because I couldn't any replacements that could actually replace him, and he ain't that impressive. If I wanted an angus, I'd go buy an angus.
Sorry for adding my 2 cents, too tired to care.

I think they’ve been searching for that PB simmi bull that puts it all together in a package with great phenotype and a pedigree that is not of the main 3 lines that seem to be used lately. This bulls granddam produced the last two high sellers in both TJ’s bull and Female sale. His dam looks like a stout, great uddered, young cow. I’m really excited about him. I think he’s one that puts all the pieces together.

Do you have any idea when he will be available? ABS purchased him only a couple weeks ago. It will probably be a while before he is transported to a collection facility, tested for semen, genetic defects, disease, etc. to get him ready to collect.
