The sun was out so I went out front and took some pictures.
This is an odd assortment of cows. A real box of crayons. Primarily Angus both black and red, but there is also one of nearly every other breed too.
The bulls are all Charolais. There is 120 cows and 8 bulls. So you know that the calves look char.
This little Correnete cow on the left is a former roping heifer. The calf next to her on the right is her calf. And she was bred to one of those big bulls like the one behind her.
So the question is where the heck did that calf in the middle come from?
These cows run in the hills with questionable fences so the neighbors bull might just stop by for a visit. Neighbor B says a Hereford calf is better than no calf at all. Everyone does use pretty good bulls so even though it might not be the preferred breed it will have pretty good genetics.

I'm surprised there's no snow. The mountains look beautiful.

Looks like my friends herd.. just missing the dairy cows.. He had a holstein, jersery, black angus, couple corriente/longhorns, herfs, and then bred them to my Gelbvieh/shorthorn/Salers bulls

I'm surprised there's no snow. The mountains look beautiful. We had about 6 inches back around Thanksgiving. It lasted 3 days or so. Since then we have had an inch or two about 8-10 times it has always been gone by late in the afternoon.
Anthony Lake ski resort which is 50 miles or so Northwest of here reports 172 inches of total snow this season and 61 inches at the base today. The base there is at 7,100 feet. There is plenty of snow in the mountains. Down here in the low lands (2,700 feet) we haven't had the snow build up. But that mountain snow is what provides us with irrigation water.

Man, that little roper did just fine didn't she? I can't believe how little it looks like winter there. Thanks for sharing.
