There will be no fence or fence building pictures from here lol I've always wondered. If you build a fence say 5' tall. Then get 4' of snow. How does that work??

For the first time in a long time, I'm seeing a lot of bottom wire failures..feral hogs I presume. Gripples are a lifesaver for fixing that. Tried crimp ferrules for awhile. After a year or so, the wire rusts under the crimp and the crimp repair separates. Here it's the fire ants that kill the bottom wire..form mounds up around em and they quickly rust into.. This is also my problem. I have two or three breaks needing fixed. It also speeds the rot out of your posts. Its a real problem on my blackland bottom land. Two of these breaks are where the wire is 10 or so inches off the ground. These mounds are 16" tall. A real pain.

I want to ask about gripples. I am not sure whether there are different brands. But this is the kind I have used: They work well for me on woven wire. Not so well on barbwire. If I use the medium size, when I put strain on the wire with the tensioner tool, the gripples start slipping by shearing on the gripping object that is spring loaded inside the gripples. It just don't work. I have gone back to the wire stretcher. If I remember correctly the gripples only have a holding strength of 900lb. Not that hard to excede that if your trying to pull

I bought some discounted gripples a couple years ago . Since I got such a good deal on them I went ahead and bought the tool. I like them because of how easy it is to repair fence . I use my chain stretcher and get fence tight put gripples in use tool to take up slack between binder then wrap both tails out of the gripple around the wire. I have not had a single one fail yet.

Why wouldn’t that be applying just as much tension on the gripple? Being able to tension and tie the fence at time would sure be nice. Sounds like a $0.05 crimp will do the same thing for a lot less. If you stretch your fence to tight and a tree falls on it you'll need to use use 2 Gripples to fix it.

I like the t clip gripples for ends on braces. The long crimps on other parts of the fence have been a surer fix in the straight runs and joining rolls. Some of the medium gripples failed in those cases when I trialed them.

Yes a ferrule would be as simple but gripples can be removed if needed and what I have only cost a .25 a piece so it is not that big of a deal.

I buy the best Dollar General has in stock........its gotta be some type acidic secretion they put out "maybe the urine"" .. that eats all the galvanization off the wire ..you can crumble it with you hands like ocean rust on cars...

Well now I'm lost, last time you posted a how to tie barbed wire video you said to hold the pliers perpendicular to the barbed wire and twist them both together, this time you twisted one wire around the other. I guess since it doesn't slip because of the 2 wraps around the post there's no pressure on the knot so it won't cut it's self like fishing wire will when it slips. That wire is so tight poachers can use it as a ladder to climb the fence.

You are correct it was parallel, you had both hand on a pair of Kline's rolling the wire together. It looked like you were wrapping one wire around the in this latest video.
