Anybody ever use one of the breaker style post drivers on a skid steer? I had a big King Hitter behind a tractor before when I was running a fencing crew. It did ok and would sure drive a post but took a bit to get set up. Didn’t really love it so I sent it on it’s way. Got a ton of fence to do here at home and still do some for other people so I am considering buying another one. Wonder how these work? Look good on video but I don’t always believe all I see on tv. Any experience or advice? Thanks

On a skidsteer don't get the tilt. You don't need it.

Thanks fence I figure you know about as much about them as anybody. I had seen them but checked them out a little more today. Turns out a buddy has one here close by so think I am going to go run his. Seems reasonably priced for what it is too.

Took your advice Fence and picked one up this week. Haven’t run it yet but I am hoping to be impressed. Are you running the extra weight on yours? Gonna try it standard first I hope I don’t have to add the other.

Been messing with this thing a bunch and it is better than a lot I have run but needs the extra weight to do much with wood posts around here. The grapple design is nice and works pretty well. Keeping them plumb is tough especially back and forth where you can’t see well.
Truth is had a guy come help out with a breaker style driver. There is no comparison. It will drive 5-6 posts at least in the same time it takes for me to drive one. Kicking myself a good bit right now. Only advantage the Hammer has is you can do it with one man in a pinch but it is SLOW. If anybody ever puts a grapple of similar design on a breaker style there would be no comparison. After looking at the designs doesn’t look like it would be hard to do. Breaker style is a lot easier on the posts especially the tops also.
An expensive lesson learned.

is a breaker style the kind that just taps the top really fast?
i have not seen one in action.
I had a HAMMER for a while and it was ok.. hard to get the posts straight and a lot of the times the hole is hollerd out at the bottom from where you try to straighten it with the skidsteer.. the one man operation is nice.

Yes 75 that is the type. Really no comparison so much faster and easier on the post. Easier to keep straight also because it doesn’t shift every time it gets that big hit. I hadn’t ever seen one work either but I can tell you I would consider nothing else now that I have. All the difference in the world!

I'm really sorry if I lead you to a bad decision. I guess I could offer to buy it from you.? We drive pipe into Rocky ground for the most part. There's definitely a learning curve. My son drives post for pipe fence with which there's only about a quarter inch of tolorence. I have seen the extera breaker driver a friend here locally has one. It's a impressive machine but I don't think in my environment it will outperform the hammer. And it's been a little delicate. Although it was operater error (dryfire) operater error figures in. I hear exterra is now got a grapple attachment. Seems like the base unit was about 13,000 I don't know what the grapple adds. Really sorry. Makes me sick to think I gave you bad advise.

Don’t sweat it Fence I don’t feel that way at all. I should have tried them and you gave me advice based on your experience that’s all you can do. Also I don’t think the hammer is a bad machine it just won’t run with the other style for my post and conditions. The grapple I have seen on the Exterra is mounted on front of the machine and you basically have to stab the post in the ground and get it to stand while you get the driver over it. That isn’t really an option here 11 months a year. I don’t think the breaker drivers are as low maintenance as the hammer. If you were closer and in the market for another machine I would make you a sweet deal but no worries it will hang out here til it finds a home. If I ever head Texas way I will let you know. I appreciate the advice.
