looking at a kuhn disc mower, side pull no conditioner. lot lower HP requirements. not sure on pricing but i'm thinking around 20k for one... looking at either the 11.5' or 13' version depending. probably the 11.5 to get 2 cuts tedded. looks like a pretty good mower. i'll have to get some high skid shoes for it as well... cut on them is only 2.5" max unless you get teh shoes.. and up to 6.5" with them.
looking at tedders.. boy.. 6 baskets are pricey. kuhn is up at 22k for one. krone is looking really good w/ no u joints, heavy built, and a 16k price.
anything else i should be looking at for around the same $ ?

I've been happy with Vermeer especially with my trail mower. Blade change is simple and fast and so far it's been bullet proof.

I have a Kuhn disc mower and been well served by it. Not sure on a trailed model but a 3 pt. version should be about 1/2 of what you have figured if your talking just a straight mower. Upgraded to a Krone tedder 2 yrs. ago and love it. Never run a 6 basket but my 4 is great really well built compared to Kuhn. It’s been my experience cheap hay equipment is the most expensive stuff you can buy.

If you are buying new most dealership will offer a demo. Try a couple different ones. I have ran kuhn and vicon (now Kubota) both are good machine. One thing to consider is buy a caddie then you can buy a 3point yo put on it .

my thinking with the trailed mower is it will take a lot of pressure off the tractors 3 point and off the mower itself. with a near 12' cut I'd say thats a lot to hang off the side. ?
i don't see a caddie option on kuhns website ? do they still have them available?

There was only a $1k between a buying a new caddie and 3pt mower, compared to a trail mower. I guess if you did a lot of highway traveling between hayfields a caddie might work better.

Most caddies I have been around are 3rd party like KMC

if thats the only difference i'll just get the trailed version. I still need to get final pricing on one
