What is everyone breeding to this year? Favorite pick? And why?
We chose several unproven bulls this year, compared to years past but feel comfortable with their genetics. Connealy Emerald, High Roller, Exclusive, Reliant.
Cleaning up straws from last year also. We used a Musgrave Aviator son last spring and are loving the calves. He’s a favorite for visitors who are curious to who he is. 4M Ace. Our Charms clicked real well with our Earnan donor. Our Jet Blacks are not stand outs right now but their poise and consistency are easy on the eye. I don’t think you can get a bad pic from them.
Love love love our Broken Bows. Which is why we went with Bigh Roller this year but we got BB semen left also. Hickok did well for us also. Super pleased at the AI success of our herd Bull we collected. We got a lot more than we anticipated. I’m trying to hold off bragging on him till I see them a little later. So far, so good.
Didn’t have a lot of success with Poss Maverick progeny (twins, bull got sat on and heifer likely free Martin) but that flush didn’t result much. I believe it was the donor, she needed a calf. We did end up purchasing a bull from Poss Sale, the flush brother of the 140k Poss Rawhide.

America and then some more America, your going to get left behind if you don't jump on on the band wagon.

I'm spinning my wheels debating. I was going to start a thread on what's most in demand, pairs with maternal or carcass calves.
But after thinking it through a little more, we're in an upswing in total herd numbers and I believe the answer is that there's just more money in steers that will perform. And if I can get them grouped tight enough, that would be a premium.

And if I can get them grouped tight enough, that would be a premium. I think we are going to need that maternal to rebuild after so many have sold off. The number of operations who didn't retain or lost their replacements last year alone are going to create a need but the same can be said about the carcass calves.
We are offering some nice females this year at our bull sale. I expect they'll sell well. We are trying to move half our herd to fall to help alleviate calving in spring. We fought through it with grit this year but man alive, we are also a co-operator now with one of the largest seedstocks in the US. We haven't calved for them yet but we are feeding for them. It is coming.
