Seeing the coat on the baby tells me that you had no trouble getting it on the baby. Those are some really thick cows!!
So your bull is still producing at 10 yrs of age? That is great!!
My herd here at the house is small, and I can walk in and out of them with ease. Many of them will let me rub their backs when I pass by and often like to be scratched. Often they will run their tongue out as far as they can and wrap it around my hand.
But funny when a cow that is tame has a calf, her hormones turn her into a different cow. Then within a few weeks, she has come back around.

Those coats remind me of some we got years ago at the Black Hills Stock Show. They were very nice, and made of wool, which was likely the problem, but when you got them on a calf, omg, it was like they were attacking a coyote. Didn't work out.

He's actually not the oldest bull in our line up... Max turned 10 in September!

These coats are insulated neoprene, like a horse blanket. Most of the came from semen companies over the years. We also use them on the show goats, so we buy them up whenever we find them at garage sales, on Facebook, at auctions, ECT. We have used them for about 15 years, so the cows are pretty much used to their calves having them on for at least a little while. We are just glad the weather is cooperating a bit and we don't have to put the ear muffs on calves this year...

We added another calf to my daughter's herd on the 13th. Judy is a 3 year old purebred red Angus, sired by our Silverado bull. She put a nice lim- flex bull in the keeper pen last year and followed up with this guy. She had him up and nursed in just a few minutes. Weighed a hefty 90 pounds. I love this little cow!

My best cow is getting close to calving. It shows she is due on May 10th, and she is showing signs that it will be right around the corner. She always has my best calf, and I am so excited to see if she will give me a fertile heifer and not twins. I do not like her personality as when she calves she goes the opposite direction I am in. If she has twins again, she will only accept one. I do hate that about her.
Clicking my heels together, "Oh please let it be a single heifer!"

Very nice, It must be cold there. That morning, it was about 15 degrees. We have had plenty of sun, but until the last couple of days, we were running about 15 degrees below normal averages.

My cow had her calf early this morning and it was a huge heifer calf. As I was walking up to it, I was afraid it would be a bull again. But when I got close, it turned it's tail to me and I could see it was a heifer. I just can't believe she had a lone heifer.
She had it 7 days early as it was due on the 10th!
