We've seen bald eagles around for years but have never found their nest. Bingo! Way up in an old sycamore on the far east side of the brome field that runs along Silver Creek & diagonal from the watershed lake. Legally can't get closer than 330 feet so this is the best I can do on my phone - may want to enlarge. Nest is huge and she's guarding it. Few years ago a neighbor was duck hunting on the watershed, which was frozen at the time. Shot a duck, landed on the ice, eagle swooped down & nabbed his kill!

We took the scope to the pasture above the watershed today. Prob about 500 ft away but much higher elevation. Could clearly see her and an eaglet. It was amazing!

Had a nest in a dead pine here several years ago , idk how many to they raised in it but they used it for at least 5 years. When the tree fell the nest was intact and was at least 6' in diameter. They are still around but I have not found where they rebuilt .

I can't find where it says you can't get closer than 300'to a nest. Most eagle regulations are federal and they are no longer endangered. Do you have a link to the rules? We don't have many but I get closer than that I'm sure

I see about one per year and saw the one for this year last week when I was spraying. It was a young one that was circling the pond before flying up to land on a high voltage mono-pole. It sat there and watched me for a good hour or so. I guess it thought like the hawks have learned that I would scare up something. I think it left disappointed. Probably heading North following the ducks back home.

Just searched again and the most recent was 2017 so may no longer apply. Thanks for pointing that out!

In recent years they have been spotted around this region sporadically. Couple years ago we were driving to a church in an adjoining county and happened to see one sitting out in a field close to a river. It was the first time I had seen one in the wild.

We have a few that hang around here. My neighbor, husband and his brother have all seen them. But when I am out, I never spot them. One day my husband left the house and turned right on the highway where he left our road, and there sat one on the rise of the right away. He said it was huge. I wish that I had gone with him that day. Often when I am out and see a shadow of a big bird passing over, I look up hoping that it will be one of the eagles, but it always turns out to be a buzzard. My husband said they were larger than the buzzards around here.
I am jealous tcranch that you have one on your property. That must be a lot of fun to watch. That is nice that she laid on the edge of a field instead of in the middle of a forest where it is easy to see. I guess it serves as a look out on the ground for the next meal.

Couple of the male feral barn cats decided to start marking their territory on & in my Polaris when it was parked at the workshop. No!! So Hubby took care of it and delivered the eagles next few meals about 50 yards from the nest. Now that was fun to watch!
