I had a couple of those in CA when I sold out. The calves were consistently better than some of the bigger growth bulls. The thing that always struck me was how snorty the bulls were but how quiet the daughters were.

I almost kept a bull I raised last year, but when we worked calves I went ahead and steered him. He was better than a lot of stuff I see guys using for bulls. If his mama has another bull calf this year, I'll look at him real hard again. His mother passes along traits that I like to see.

Here is the only home raised bull I have a pic of. He is a senepol, out of a full blood senepol cow and AI'd from a bull named 48k. Good bull, calves grew like hell but, I took a beating at the sale barn due to the senepol influence in the calves. If anyone ever suggests senepol.....run. run very fast. First pic is him somewhere around the 14-15 month age. Second pic is at 2. He got put on the trailer before He made it to 3.

Might get you to put the next one on a trailer and send him this way before you go to eating it.

I hadn't been in the registered biz very long then and did'nt have the contacts to get him sold. The wife had posted that picture of him on facebook. About the time we were to pick the meat up i got call. The guy ask me about the bull and if he was for sale. i told him he was in 1 lb packages. That man told me he had called and was willing to pay me 5000.00 for him. That really made savor those steaks. Don't know if he was pulling my leg or not.

Nice deep thick bull there Dumbcrow. Nothing to be ashamed of there that I can see. May be as nice or nicer than some of the America calves out there. ( Sorry guys couldn’t resist)! Randy you sure raise some nice cattle, I could see them bringing that money. I would be happy to have any of them standing in my front pasture.

I for the most part think most of us have good cattle for what their purpose is. If we have been fooling with cattle very long we have selected for what works for us. I have never been to bad to chase bigger better faster. I like steady consistant reliable.

Why is it When you try and take a picture of a bull the bastard never stands right. I tried several times yesterday and it was a fail.
