I have a friend who made two appointment for slaughter in Feb, and he doesn't have the animals yet!! Better than having 2 that need to go, but cant get in until February like we do. Bad deal since they won't bring anything in the sale ring because of injury, and we're in a bad drought so really don't want to run them on grass we don't have.

Only one outfit in the county. They do farm slaughter. A month or so ago I bought a fat heifer on Wednesday. Called them when I got home. They came and slaughtered her on Friday. Two weeks later they called, the meat was ready.
Interesting, I don't remember ever hearing of that being done commercially before. What kind of outfit do they use? How does the price compare to the 5-600 dollar charge that we pay for just simple processing? The slaughter and cut and wrap came to $633. She hung up 650 pounds. They have a one ton truck with an insulated box and a rail down the middle. It probably has room for three steers. I don't believe it was refrigerated but the inside is all stainless and washed down clean. They carry there own water which has a pump so they can wash down the carcass. Electric winch to hoist the critter with. They are pretty fast.
