A neighbor has asked me about checking their cows on summer pasture. It's right on my normal route, would just have another stop. It would be a couple times a week and putting any in that got out. I have a number in mind for a monthly price, just wondering what others thoughts are on what a fair price would be?

I wouldn't charge him anything unless it was a real pain in the rear (or he is). Just tell him to pay you what he thinks its worth. You never know when you will need the favor returned.

Checking cows has always been what I do when I need to unwind. Are you sure you don't have to pay him to let you drive around his pastures??

I guess I'd figure by how long you think you'll be spending doing it and what that kind of effort would be worth, whatever that might be. I think there's a difference between checking on something while someone is on vacation or maybe sick which I'd just do, vs for an extended time frame. They could always farm like my brother and some others I know. Dump them in, throw a bull in and forget them. What lives, lives and what doesn't wasn't meant to be. I could never get away with that.
