For the first time ever my two sons and I made a clean sweep of out tags. Three deer and three elk. The boys came down here to hunt deer. I shot a buck on opening day. They both shot bucks the next day. The youngest boy went home the next day. He had a muzzle loader elk tag which was open. The second day he was back home he shot a 5x5 bull with his muzzle loader. I had a cow tag for my home area. I shot a yearling cow on the third day I hunted. This is one fine eating elk. From now on I am going for a yearling cow. Way better eating than a bull. The oldest boy led his hunting partners son on his first day ever hunting elk to a bull on opening day. And then harvested his own bull on day 4. Picture of me with my buck. It was planned to take this one out of the gene pool. It has less than a 5 inch spread on top. Not a normal Mule deer. My elk came out of the hills by the neighbor with his side by side. Our little group ranchers and cowboys also made a clean sweep filling all our cow tags.

Good job to all. My son wants to hunt Elk someday, but it's getting harder to get away, and getting a tag is another thing I understand.

Congrats on all the successes. That will be some fine eating in the freezers for the year.

Good job to all. My son wants to hunt Elk someday, but it's getting harder to get away, and getting a tag is another thing I understand. Tell him to start looking at rather he can store points where he wants to go. In Colorado, you can turn down the tag if you get drawn and store the points that make it likelier to be drawn when you want. I haven't been in years, and not sure if I'll ever go again, but there's not a lot in hunting that could top the whole experience in my opinion. If he plans on hunting at much elevation, it doesn't hurt to work on getting in a little better shape right before going. Makes it more enjoyable.

Last yearling cow I had was really good also Dave. When packing out, she sure seemed bigger all of a sudden and I swear both ways were uphill...lol.
Your side by side access sounds ideal.
