This has happened before, but when I got on News Thud, a page kept popping up about my Flash Player needed updating. It comes up often and I started trying to figure out how to get it off, but it is taking up a lot of my time this morning, so I will work on it later.
Have any of you run across this? I have a Mac, but I think it has come through the Windows side. The virus starts with "boot-"
I think about removing the windows part of the computer, I have never really had a bad virus as Mac warns you not to open things. It angers me that a reliable News site has a virus attached to it. I have gone in and removed as much as I could and erased all the cookies and such. I am sure it is still in another crack somewhere that I have not looked.
No, I am not a computer genius as you can tell, but I have always managed to get things removed or taken care of. It sure is a waste of time too.

Long time Mac user. Small percentage of the market & consequently not a target for viruses & malware issues but you definitely have to be cautious. Supposed Flash Player updates are often bait. Regardless of how official a site looks, NEVER click on it on it if you didn't initially instigate the communication and even then, be very wary. Hackers are proficient at posing as the real deal. Call the news site and let them know what transpired. in the meantime at the very least get a malware program.

What kind of malware program do you use? I make sure that I don't click on those sites. I go to history and pull up the websites addresses to see where it came from. Then I start digging into my computer and delete those addresses. It has stopped it for now, but I know it will show up once again. I will write the news site and let them know what went on...

I use the free version of this program. Very pleased. Reputable company/developer and consensus is its highly recommended. It's icon is situated in the main menu bar and I have it set to scan early each morning. You won't notice its active unless it warns you of something suspicious in which case allows you dispose of any offenders. While some disagree as the Mac platform gains popularity, I don't use an anti virus program. Too many dissatisfied users and complaints about causing performance havoc. Lucky us for not having the trials & tribulations of a PC & OS. www.malwarebytes.com

I have been using iMac for around 10 years. The computer is a 2011, and I often think of getting a new one until I look at the prices. It is old enough that it will not download the new versions, and I am on High Sierra, version 10.13.6. I suppose I will use the computer until it have the urge to take a hammer to it.
I am going to check into the web site you posted above. Thank you for telling me about it 76bar!!

I am going to check into the web site you posted above. Thank you for telling me about it 76bar!! Been a fan of Apple for 20+ yrs. My current iMac is a 2011 model/21". You're one OS ahead of me (Sierra 10.12.6 here). Mine's getting pretty cranky these days. Lots of dreaded spinning beach balls! Was gonna buy a new 21" at Costco (great price) but rumor has it Apple might debut a 24" model the first part of 2021. I'd love a tic more screen real estate. One thing to keep in mind...you can easily upgrade to more RAM (highly recommended) with the 27" models but not the 21" (sealed shut). Stinkers! Acknowledge that Apple is heartily criticized for their product prices. Pardon the play on words buts its the price you pay for total integration of hardware & software not to mention a long, trouble free experience. Glad I could be of help!

That 24" would be nice. My screen is also 21". I started looking at the new computers and thought about getting one this year, but I started thinking about what else I needed to get instead. I spent my computer money on a 12' cutter for the pasture this morning.
I sure would have enjoyed the new computer more I think since we are on it quite a bit. Yes, I have to agree about how much more trouble free Apple is than Microsoft. The Microsoft products just keep getting slower and bogged down with viruses and such that is downloaded from other sites.
This is still a good computer, so I will probably hang on to it for a while. Even at its age, it is much easier to use and maintain than a Microsoft.

Dec 31st, 2020, neither Microsoft, Adobe (developed and owns Flash Player) nor Chrome will support Flash apps, Flash ads, Flash games or Flash programs. Adobe began warning it was ending Flash back in 2017, as HTML5 and other programs are replacing it. www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/end-of-life.html
