I have a registered cow and a registered bull, both Black Angus to have a calf together that have had the lightest colored heifer that I have had yet. Often the calves will be bay like a horse with the red colored hair on the body but with black points and sheds off completely black. This calf is what I would call a Grulla in the horse world. Her legs are only slightly darker than her body, with blond coloring down the sides of her tail. Been raising cattle for several years now, and just have never seen one this light. I am anxious to see her color when she sheds off. She kept running off around her mother and she stopped in sunlight where I could catch half of her in the sunlight so you can see the color of her legs. Just missing her face. She is 4 weeks old. Her ears are the same color as her legs and no dark circles around her eyes or mouth. This cow has never seen another bull than an Angus as they are none close. If you blow the picture up, you can see the colors better. Nell is my 13 year old cow and has had twins more often than not. The last two years she has had a single calf. I think she has retained the huge belly from carrying so much over the years. She reminds me so much of a water buffalo. Have any of you ever been surprised by a color that one of your registered cows threw?

I suspect that when the winter hair comes in next fall she will be black.

You must be sitting still bulltrader!! I am anxious to see her turn. I will post pictures if she start showing changes. When she stands with the other calves, she sticks out like a sore thumb. This is the sire. I pour enough feed in the troughs to get them up to check them each day and make sure the calves come up and eat mineral. Just making sure they are all OK. It is easier to see them standing on bare soil then in the grasses.
