I have heard of the semen that folks have bought and it was bad. Are there people in the know or companies that you trust who traffic and trade in semen from older bulls? I do not have an absolute need but I would try a couple that I do not have if I can find them. Shipping is usually a $200+ on any purchase so it is never cheap but sometimes it works out well to go back to more of a foundation type animal to build or fortify. Thanks.

Thanks. Just a few specific bulls. With a base of KY31 fescue I keep that as a #1 selection tool. One in the 70's and one in the late 80's. It's funny that you can get semen from the past with bad EPDs and they do well.

EPD's are skewed towards the younger cattle and promote the turn and burn philosophy. Older cattle and line breeders are on the short end of EPD's.
There has been a lot of breed characteristics lost in cattle over time with the frame race snd EPD's.
