My BIL sold me a 3-point 8' Big Bee rotary mower three years ago and it ran fine until last year. I let the oil in the gear box run dry and it cost me close to a grand to get repaired. I ran it the rest of the summer checking the oil level faithfully and checked it as I was taking it off last fall. Yesterday my nephew decides he wants to mow for me and gets everything ready. My dumb self doesn't even think about telling him to check the level because it was full the end of last season, right? Well, he just called and told me he was almost finished and the thing sounded like the blades were hitting one another. When will I learn?

Just hoping it's not as much this time. My nephew can use tools so I'm hoping...

Had that same issue with a woods batwing. The way the seals are in those you could check it and be dry in an hour. We started putting cornhead grease in those and that seems to solve the problem.

Definitely get you some corn head grease. Those twin spindles will jump time just like a tedder so that may be your problem. Just break it at the coupler and move it a few teeth. I have had to do it several times on mine when the terrain is rough and it bottoms out or you find that stump that some idiot sawed off short but not short enough. Hopefully your not out another gear box.

If I’m not mistaken, Bushwhacker used to call for cotton spindle grease or “00” as we call it from the factory. Ot at least that’s what we put in em when we assembled them. Lol
If nothing else, just pump some bearing grease in it

REGULAR GREASE WILL NOT TRAVEL THE GEARS AND SHAFT LIKE CORN HEAD OR COTTON SPINDLE LUBE. CORN HEAD WON'T TURN TO LIQUID LIKE SPINDLE LUBE THAT IS WHY I PERFER CORN HEADER GREASE.

Ha-ha!! After he posted that I told him he would get in trouble for using all caps. I was just glad that he joined in and hopefully the next time he will pay a bit more attention. He does not use the computer very much.
