Next time that cow is in the pens and outside her withdrawl period she goes to the mkt after fixing a prolapse, usually as soon as she starts pushing again, calving, it is likely will happen again.

I've got some neighbours that believe in culling for a uterine prolapse. Years ago I bought 2 of these cows (different occasions) that were of a type I liked (for cull cow price of course) and they lived out their useful life here. I wonder about culling for ear tag retention. One thing, if I culled her for that she'd dang well never do that on this place again! If I could talk my wife into letting me cull for ear tag retention we'd be able to finally retire and travel the country. I'll add that one to my prayer list. Your definitely right about culling, my herd is made up of someone else's cull cows, but aren't most?

Still have one of our original cows (who is still one of the first to calve); the rest of the herd is the result of retaining heifers every year.

Sounds exactly like you bought someone's cull cows. Cull isn't a bad word. One man's junk is another man's treasure. Even America was a cull. cull /kəl/ verb 1. select from a large quantity; obtain from a variety of sources. "anecdotes culled from Greek and Roman history" synonyms: select, choose, pick, take, obtain, get, glean "anecdotes culled from Greek and Roman history" noun 1. a selective slaughter of wild animals.

I stand corrected.

I don't have a good understanding of what causes prolapses. My limited experience helping others has always been to get everything back where it belongs, and sell her when she mends. I never knew they could go on to be productive after a prolapse. That said if I ever have one, I'll cash her in and get me a new cow! I guess it depends on what school you went to, but I'd have trouble liking a cow I know has prolapsed before.
