Went to a cattle market in Newport TN today. First time there for me. Bought a couple cow/calf pairs reasonable enough. The bred cows were as high or higher than the pairs. Didn't make sense to me.

Hang around special sales long enough you might see yearling opens bring about the same as heavy bred heifers. Commercial heifer shows fuel that market.

Sometimes it doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to what sells better. Typically I would think that a good cow/calf pair should outsell a bred cow of similar size and quality.
Never been to Newport to sale, but have been a few times years ago to a market in Tazewell, TN.

These were nice cows but one with a 300lb calf is worth way more to me than a bred cow

It went under a couple years ago. Then new management took it over. Lasted a little over a year. Got down to only 25 or so head a week. Really good people running it but they couldn't make it work

I have not been to the new Lexington yard, they say it's huge Have been to Paris quite a bit years ago, but its been several years. Yes the new Lexington yards is huge. They have several office spaces for various businesses, and host groups and tours. It's nice, but I think some different designs on the entrance, and getting around to the loading and unloading areas could have been done better, but they didn't consult me about it. Speaking of London, been years since I have been there, sold a few goats there.
