After seeing what his grand daughters look like at our place, and then what milking daughters looked like yesterday at my buddies place it sure is easy to see the hype on SAV Renown. They aren’t big cows, have beautiful udders and are quite attractive. Don’t seem to have time to AI much other than heifers these days but if I was going to breed the whole herd to one bull he maybe the pick.

That is what most people try to accomplish IMO. Chasing every trait with a mixture of sires never gets the results. Pick a foundation then build from there. All the successful breeders do this.

I've only seen one in person but I sure liked her. Seems like I've never heard anything bad about any of them but there's sure a lot of people that like him.

Some folks seem to think they can be a little too small, but those are the Iowa boys that think they need 1800# cows. We'll see how long they last and what the fertility is like but so far so good.

I like Resource over Renown but he's not built to everyone's liking. I don't believe we've kept any Renown as replacements but I could be wrong.

From the calves I seen at sales in the springs the resource sired bulls and heifers looked great.
I’m not an Angus breeder but doesn’t it worry you keeping heifers with a negative CEM EPD?
I know EPD’s aren’t written in stone but that’s about as bad as that EPD gets

Just like anything else, you can move forward but do so with that in mind. It is when you get a herd of cattle that you aren't familiar with or didn't breed yourself, that you tend to run into complications.

I've had herds that were a strict three way cross that would run into problems continuing the cross on virgin heifers. It was an easy fix when we bred them back to the same breed as their sire was.

The resource bulls are definitely more rugged. I think the females can get a little wastey or heavy fronted and that would be why I like the renown females a touch more as they seem to be more refined.
