Summer born calves don't work here. Seems like they struggle to catch up to fall calves that are a couple of months younger. Side note: I was wondering where Geoff Dahl wound up. I took some dairy science classes online when he was at University of Illinois about eighteen years ago. I messaged him a few questions. He was always really good about getting back and then all of a sudden he dropped off the map.

Dr. Dahl has been at Florida for a while now. Hope he can get there dairy program back up to snuff.

You are right, they don't do any better than the even later born fall calves. Seems like if there is any summer pneumonia or pink eye those summer calves are also the prime candidates for that too.

Its just flat to hot for them and the dryer tougher pastures set them back.
