Squirrel season opened a week ago here in OK. I was tied up early in the week but freed up some time to take the kids hunting for an hour on Thursday and half the day on Saturday. On Thursday I had the boy shooting a .22 and the girl had the .22 air rifle. We saw a few but nothing safe for the boy to shoot and the girl needed one to hold still and never got that. Saturday we stepped it up and went with their 20 gauges. We didn't see much but brought home the one they did see and had a great day sneaking around in the woods together. We have to go back now to get a few more to put with the one in the fridge. My daughter got lots of pictures of birds and blooms to look up. I know what some of them are but there is some new stuff here I've never seen before. We did see an indigo bunting and she and I both knew what it was even though neither of us had ever seen one in person.

That's great getting to take the kids hunting. I really miss hanging around with my kids, enjoy it while you can.

Sounds like fun. Sometimes having a dog around will make the squirrels move a little more. Even if it's not a good squirrel dog, if he'll bark a little it should help.

My catahoula would have been perfect but I shot him a few weeks ago. My wife got the kids half lab half bluetick pups a few months ago so we're starting to mess with them a little and try to turn them into something useful. They might actually turn into decent all around hunting dogs. One wants to hunt but doesn't have a lot of desire to please and the other spends every waking moment trying to figure out how to make people happy with her so between the two of them there is some hope.
