I broke the left side 3pt lift arm on my 3600 today. From the looks of the break, it had been cracked 1/2 thru for a long time. It's the lefty one without the easy handle adjustment on it. Anyone had any luck welding them up? This is a pic from a 4000 but the arms are all made about the same. Broke about where the arrow is so there's plenty of room for me to work on it..but will it hold with 7018?

We have welded a couple over the years. Always put a brace piece along the side of the break to strengthen it.

A good welder could, I don't know what you can do . I would take it off to bevel and weld it.

Bevel it and weld it, if you want X strong slide a piece of pipe on before you patch weld then weld above and below the patch.

I did weld it and so far it's working and holding. The stabilizing bars and chains are crap on those models..lots better on the 4000s.

I've got one on a Ford 540 which is identical to the on the 4000. I welded it about 10 years ago. I worried about it breaking for years. Now I just brag about how good my welding is.

If you bevel it out and get a full penetration weld, it should be stronger than before. We have no idea what the composition is. Too hot and you could get a heat affected zone. Too cold and you won't get the penetration you need. Overlays are good. If you look at welds under a microscope, you'll find they all crack on top. Passing over the last bead heals those surface cracks. All my life I heard, "If one pass don't hold ........" You know that's an old wives tale if you see welds under microscope. Overlays are good. Clean the previous weld completely before you put your next pass.
