Santa Monica Observer publisher David Ganezer has issued an op-ed explaining why his media outlet removed a story speculating that 27-year-old Los Angeles Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs died of an opioid overdose.
I don’t get it. You have a life that people dream of but you need drugs for a greater high ? You need a high when you are a millionaire and you have everything money can buy. I just don’t get it.

I'll wait for the official word since I haven't heard one.

A sound mind and peace can not be bought. Doesn't matter how much money you have.

My kids and I were leaving vacation in Galveston when we heard about it. We're not big on watching sports, don't even have a tv to watch sports, but I had the thought that we might stop and watch a professional baseball game so that they could experience it. My son is very athletic and is getting into sports a little. Then I heard that the game was canceled. His selfishness kept at least two potential fans from ever even being exposed to the game he made a life out of.

Thanks, cross. I read that on FB just a few minutes ago and couldn't remember where it was posted. I appreciate you remembering.

I hate it for his family and fans. He had a gift from God and wasted it. Millions of kids grow up dreaming and working their butts for what he was gifted with. You don’t just decided one day to throw 90 mph. 99% of the kids that throw 90 never make it to the show. Guys 27-28 years old are just getting their shot in the bigs and aren’t successful. He pissed his life away to get high. Its a sad deal but drugs and alcohol are a down hill slope.

Stinking parents have hired a lawyer to get to the bottom of what really happened. Your boy was a dope head and took one to many this time. Dang shame.

I can see someone on pretty powerful prescription drugs getting confused and taking their daily dose twice, and people have died from doing exactly that, but that wasn't the case with Skaggs. I've never been able to understand why people that seemingly have it made in the shade have to go this dopehead route.

I'm mixed on this. Im sure very few people set out in life planning on being a dopehead. It could start out one way and the addiction set in and go bad wrong. Until you've lived with that inside of you, how do you know what it's like? Easy to say just quit, anyone who has smoked or dipped snuff knows it ain't the easiest thing to quit an addiction. Hell there are people that can't quit biting their fingernails much less quit something like opiods.
As far as "accidental overdose" I think they use that term when it wasn't planned. But, that would be like saying accidental lung cancer from smoking. Nobody plans for that shit when they first start. Probably should but they don't.
It is sad when a person dies that seemingly has so much going for them. 1000s of people have died since him from the same thing just don't hear about it because they weren't famous.
As far as the parents finding whose at fault, I think they know already but, just can't accept the fact their boy held his own cards in life. Probably a little ashamed of themselves for not seeing the signs or taking action if they did see it.

It's the shame of my life that I've not been able to quit more than 6 months at a time. There are people in my extended family that have had trouble with drug abuse..the illegal kind, but.......they went down that road voluntarily. Best way to keep it from happening is don't do it to begin with.
