Just wondering how popular they are in other areas? We hold an hour long service in the sale ring of our local stockyard every Tuesday night. No sale on Tuesday but the restaurant is open and makes dinner and fellowship something I look forward to. We have close to a hundred people some nights. Not so much cowboys, but just folks that maybe don't belong to a traditional church. Everyone just comes as they are, blue jeans , t shirts, work boots, whatever. If I'm short on time I have showed up dirty...LOL! There's a lot of young people that come regularly, and I believe that's a wonderful thing. The word got out in the community about what we we're doing and several local pastors had to come see it for themselves. Some are now regulars, and they sometimes lead us in prayer and sometimes deliver the message. Community support has been great. It's been 4 years and the new hasn't worn off yet, like some thought it might. Just wondering if Cowboy Church is this popular everywhere? I'll try to link the Facebook page. www.facebook.com/Stockyard-Cowboy-Church-430815920453309/

They have a men's Church in the dirt here that meets weekly at the rodeo grounds. I haven't been yet. It seems like Sunday mornings and an occasional Wednesday evening is about all I can fit in.

Cowboy Churches have sprung up everywhere around here it seems. The only difference I see is they are usually held outside and the dress is "informal' to say the least, which is fine with me. God don't much care how you're dressed. (since hot weather has arrived, the services aren't nearly as long either..long winded ministers don't do well in 100 degrees.

God don't much care how you're dressed. (since hot weather has arrived, the services aren't nearly as long either..long winded ministers don't do well in 100 degrees. One Sunday morning an old cowboy entered a church just before services were to begin. Although the old man and his clothes were spotlessly clean, he wore jeans, a denim shirt and boots that were very worn and ragged. In his hand he carried a worn out old hat and an equally worn out Bible. The church he entered was in a very upscale and exclusive part of the city. It was the largest and most beautiful church the old cowboy had ever seen. The people of the congregation were all dressed with expensive clothes and accessories. As the cowboy took a seat, the others moved away from him. No one greeted, spoke to or welcomed him. They were all appalled at his appearance and did not attempt to hide it. As the old cowboy was leaving the church, the preacher approached him and asked the cowboy to do him a favor: “Before you come back in here again, have a talk with God and ask him what he thinks would be appropriate attire for worship.” The old cowboy assured the preacher he would. But the next Sunday, he showed back up for the services wearing the same ragged jeans, shirt, boots and hat. Once again he was completely shunned and ignored. The preacher approached the man and said, “I thought I asked you to speak to God before you came back to our church.” “I did,” replied the old cowboy. “If you spoke to God, what did he tell you proper attire should be for worshiping in here?” asked the preacher. “Well, sir, God told me that He didn’t have a clue what I should wear. He said He’d never been in here before.”

They are everywhere down this way but seems one closes down about as quickly as a new one opens up now or there are problems followed by divisions. I guess they are excellent for certain folks but I could never go to one. Just doesn't seem right. Already have 30 churches in a community of less than 3500 so something is already wrong. Slicing the pie mighty thing.

I've been in a lot of them but the one I'm out now is the first one that ever made me feel like the Holy Spirit was in the room with us and there are churches on just about every block around here and someone from each of those churches feels like they're closer to God when they go there.

I reckon, but it just seems a shame you have to have a dozen of one denomination and then some denominations that claim to be not denominations. I'll have to ponder this for awhile Okie.

TB, if you want to see some folks that really love the Lord with all of their heart go to any church of any denomination that deals with recovering addicts and listen to their stories of salvation. You won't hear it at any church with more than about fifty people until the little church where they first went when they were found melts down and they find a bigger church after they've worked on things a while. The little church I go to has an average of about twenty people but we get waaaaay more interest from people that are curious about the Lord than our parent church in town does. They have the same people every week and we get people who have never held a Bible before.

Multi or non-denominational churches are becoming pretty numerous here...especially the closer you get to Houston.
Wife and I were invited to and attended a Passover Seder a few years ago at one such church in Humble Tx in a big strip mall..I think the building was a closed down Big lots originally...it was sandwiched between a tattoo parlor and a massage parlor. Jews, Protestants, Muslims, Catholics...all kinds. A speaker from each..yes, there was an Islamic Imam there. It was 'interesting'.. There was a youth band afterwards....we didn't stay for that.

I don't know of a "cowboy church" here. But the church that I attend has a number of ranchers and cowboys sitting in the pews every Sunday.
There is close to nothing in this little town. Only about 10 houses which are lived in. A post office only open 2 hours a day and an old two room school that now serves as a community center. There is also a little old church (Catholic) in our town that was donated to the community historical group. We hold a bible study there on Sunday evenings. Generally about 10 people attend. All of them are ranchers and ranch owners. I will have to work on getting some cowboys to attend so we can call it "cowboy church".

I see them all over. I'd like to think that all churches were there to spread the word, but I'm afraid that most of them are there for the money.

Exactly the reason I left the one I attended for about four years. It was family run and the family got greedy as it grew. One took off like wildfire here but there were no deacons. Church was run by a man and his wife, both ministers. It dried up.
They opened a new one complete with an arena out by me. Lots of folks have invited me but I have never been. Biggest issue I have is the people pulling right out in front of you on the highway when they leave the church. I have had near misses. Busted feed sacks once in the back of the truck. One truck pulled out right in front of me and I got on the brakes hard, then the care behind him pulled out too. I had to go to the ditch. It is a 70 mph zone and I was doing around 50.
