We have a real fine sand under any covered area here. It turns to a powder like sand after a few years of not getting any moisture in it. When I set corner posts, I will shovel a few buckets of that sand out and pour into the post hole. All you have to do is shake the post little while you are pouring the sand. It sets up like concrete. Don't know if y'all get that kind of sand under your barns or not but it makes a good corner post.

I had a barn that we did that with . I can't tell you how many bucket's of sand I have shoveled over the years for post.
