I don't know that there's any real difference between jerseys and regular cattle as far as gestation but they are full of quirks. If you get one that does anything aside from walking to the barn like a normal cow she's probably a crossbred.

From my experience jerseys will usually go a little shorter gestation than an average beef cow. In fact they are considered a day or 2 shorter than a holstein. Can't find my calendar that says off hand but I try to tell anyone I have bred for in the past that the APPROXIMATE date is such and such. Start paying more attention to her about 2 weeks ahead. IT IS LIKE PEOPLE..... the baby will come when it and the cow is ready. If a first calf heifer, then the swelling and development of the udder is more pronounced ahead of time. Sure it would be nice to be exact, but pregnancy is not an exact science... I have jerseys, and crossbreds, and beef cattle. Don't see any real specific quirks except that my jerseys like their grain in the barn. The crossbreds usually have more attitude problems if 1/2 jer 1/2 hol. I can get the straight jerseys to take more calves easier than the crossbreds. The jer/ang ones are pretty laid back attitude wise. They tend to lose more weight if just run on pasture putting their all into the milk and the calf. Don't see any differences in getting them bred back if they breed early in the season.
If that lady said her bag is just now filling with milk, then maybe she got bred at a later date?
