Does any one have any plans to try any new cool season forages or crops?
I've considered planting some Barley more for grain then anything else but it could be pastured and some might be put up for hay. I might try some crimson clover with some rye for hay in the spring.
Any body else trying anything they haven't done before?

I have several different areas which need something added and am considering different species. The people I bought from had way too many horses. They worked things over pretty hard. One area is an old gravel bar from the river. I have good irrigation water there but the water goes down quickly. I need a species that will be deep rooted that establishes quickly. Another has better soil but less irrigation. Lots of competition from weeds and unwanted annual grass. I can spray to get rid of the annuals but I need to establish the new grass first. The other two are dry land with about 10 inch annual rainfall. One has a thin stand of crested wheat grass. I would like to thicken it up with something. The other has pretty much nothing but weeds. I need to spray them out and get something good growing there. I have other areas that need work but most are too steep. No shortage of sage brush and juniper to work on too.
