big t-storm came thru about 5pm as forecast. power went off immediately, and there are only 5 of us on the end of a line that are without power. everyone else upstream (less than 1 mile from me)have power. Estimated time of repair 2pm tomorrow. This is not an isolated event..happens several times every year as on of the friggin govt trees or limbs falls on the power line. really tired of hearing the genset run just to keep a few lights on and the freezer/refrigerator running. I truly hate Entergy and the nat forest..and blasted trees!

Worst thing is even if the national forest wanted the trees cut the environmentalists wouldnt let them.

The power company learned a lesson after a big ice storm a few years ago here. They keep trees cut waaaay back from the lines now and they go through every year to make sure it stays that way. We still get outages but it is rarely from trees.

There are 3 different power companies that service the ranch; we're literally on the dividing lines. Naturally we're the last on the list/furthest away for the one that services the house & barn/barnyard. We kept having outages because of the trees and they finally sent out a crew to cut down & back all the trees along the lines. Huge difference! Like Okie, they've stayed on top of it. And I do have to give them credit for coming out immediately (subjective - they're 45 minutes away) both times we were hit by a tornado.

Our coop has the best line maintenance in this region but also the highest KWH price.

Similar situation here Greybeard. Particularly frustrating when it's -40. Keeping water bowls thawed turns into a challenge. I have a couple of Honda 2000's I drag around when needed. I'd like a bigger genset for the house, maybe this fall I'll splurge. I'd sure like to be able to tell the power company to take a hike and be self sufficient but that might be an even bigger PIA not including the expense.

Entergy truck showed up about an hour ago and had power restored in less than 45 minutes and most of that time was driving the line to see what caused the blown line fuse. As i suspected, a GOVT tree limb. I don't mind terribly that we have outages...I live in the damn woods..chose to. I DO mind tho that the damn dispatcher that sends the update texts out to us lies to us about what the problem is when you call and speak to them. Told me it was a major outage with a big lateral line fuse blown somewhere. It was 5 customers, at the end of a line and the whole line is less than 3 miles long serving 17 customers total. They didn't even send anyone out till this morning, so how could the customer service guy know what the problem was? (we don't have 'smart meters' here or any other kind of remote sensing devices. All Entergy knows is which customers call in the outages.)

When I was over on the coast I was in the very southwest corner for Puget Energy. They serve hundreds of thousands of customers in the area around Seattle. Back in '96 there was an ice storm. Those people in developments thought the world was going to end. They were on the news howling about it. I was out of power for 17 days. Good thing it didn't get too cold during those 17 days.

Its got to be a pretty big outage for it to take the guys here long to fix it. Big ice storm a few years back we were out 28 days.

Go to the city for a few days and you'll be ready to get back to the woods.
