Three or four weeks ago there was a young buck out here with his head stuck in a woven wire fence. I was headed to the shop to get wire cutters to cut him free and he got loose on his own. He ran past me and I saw that he was a spike. The last couple days I see a spike buck with one horn that down toward his nose. It is an inch or two over his eye and most of the way to his nose. I wonder if he is the one that was stuck in the fence. It doesn't appear to be loose or wiggle around when he moves.

We have an atypical Euro mount from a buck found (already dead) by our watershed. Neighbor captured him for years on his trail cam and his antlers always grew back the same - freaky. Posted pics on CT and don't remember who but one of the comments was that it was probably injured when it was young & some people purposely shoot them with buck shot for the atypical mounts.

I just got to thinking. The power line tree trimmers that were here last week said they saw a big mature buck about a mile from here. One side was a standard mule deer 4 point. They say his other antler was a huge mess of points going every direction. Maybe my spike is his son and it is genetic thing. I wont shoot him so if the cougars don't get him we will get to see what he grows into.

Sure some odd ones out there. Neighbor south of us got this one last year. What the what? And yes, he had it mounted. Have no idea if the meat was thrown away or used for the dogs. He's 100% Country but even he wouldn't eat it.
