Saturday I went to urgent care with knee pain that was getting worse every day. Guy reading the X-ray thought I might have a fractured tibia. Well it turns out it’s only a super duper case of bursitis of the knee. I think the doc was amazed I wasn’t having more issues since I have a lot of extra bone deposits thanks to 45 years of Osgood-Schlatter disease. He even took an x-ray of my “good” knee out of curiosity and comparison. He said it’s actually worse. Has more deposits protruding into the knee. Going to try an oral steroid treatment before going under the knife.

I heard that. I was concerned it might be fractured....sometime about a year ago I did get kicked just below the knee by a 500 lb calf I was loading out. That pain went away but around thanksgiving I had pain in the knee I complained to my primary care physician about during a routine check up. Got a prescription to see a physical therapist but never got around to going. Knee was much better just a few days later. Their were a couple hours Saturday night I was wondering if it would hurt less if I gnawed it off.

I was having knee problems and told the Dr that it felt like a gravel was moving around in the knee joint. When he operated he got a piece of bone spur that had broken off and was moving around.

Had something like that happen ~35 years ago on my other knee cap. Knee cap chipped and like you said, felt like kneeling on gravel. Doc said it would reseat itself and it did.

That's great. If you need a replacement, don't put it off too long. They have really improved over the last few years.

I hope they get you fixed up like new. It says a lot about your view on life that you report good news when you're still in pain.

To me, finding out it wasn’t fractured was a huge relief. That took the need for surgery off the table for now.
Second day on oral steroids. Still have some pain and discomfort but can walk fairly comfortably if I don’t get in a hurry. Was offered a shot butI opted for oral. Will do the shots if the oral doesn’t get it.
Was explained the procedure for removing the excess bone deposits. Sounds easy enough but the recovery period is about a year so we have that option if needed. Had rotator cup surgery 8 years ago. Really want to forego an invasive knee surgery.

I hope you're able to deal with it using the steroids. Avoiding invasive procedures is bets, IMHO. Having options, though, is a good thing.
