I know I'm mostly a lurker but thought I would share some pictures from the last couple of weeks. It's been an odd year - started off looking like we would be in a very bad drought, then it started raining and has hardly stopped. Haying season has been interesting, but we sure aren't about to complain. Grass is doing very well this year. Could've probably put a few more pairs on this pasture. a pretty sharp looking BA bull calf that I have tried to get a decent picture of all summer. Another pretty nice BA bull calf that I can't seem to get a great picture of. This one is thick & deep. Sired by a home raised bull. RA heifer calf that will most likely make the keeper pen. RA 2nd calf pair. This heifer didn't raise a very good first calf, but is redeeming herself a bit on her 2nd attempt. First calf RA heifer with her heifer calf - born Jan 9, so quite a bit older than the rest of our calves (we start calving around the 20th of Mar) Commercial calves - Charolais sired more commercial calves. Either Char or RA sired. some barley green feed baled up. same field just after it was cut Thanks for letting me share!

Gives us some options for commercial replacement heifers. Don't really want to start keeping a bunch of char x replacement heifers.

Nice country, not used to the lack of trees but it is beautiful. Cows look good as well.
Thank you for sharing. It's good for those of us in the swamp to see things outside of our own world.

It is tempting to keep a group of them. A few might stick around this winter...we shall see. Im sure they will mature too big for my liking but they sure do look nice right now.

They sure could get big, but may not be as big as you would think.

Thanks all for the comments. Glad to have an outlet to share some pictures even if I don’t get around to it all that often. It is tempting to keep a group of them. A few might stick around this winter...we shall see. Im sure they will mature too big for my liking but they sure do look nice right now. Just thinking bred to that red bull would make some dandy calves. They sure could get big, but may not be as big as you would think. They probably would make good calves no doubt. We’ve kept a few daughters off our tan char bull. One is raising her first calf and then there is 2 or 3 more that were bred this year. They are already bigger than my ideal. We will see how they turn out though. If they raise good calves and don’t seem to eat more than the rest in the winter they can stick around.

Got to do what works i reckon, but those white heifers sure look good. I have noticed that Char cattle do have a healthy appetite.
