I had an appointment at a doctor's office, and found a seat butted up against some kids and their mom. The chairs were butted up against each other, back to back, and didn't think a thing about it. When I got home after a little bit, I kept feeling something crawling across my forehead and thought it was hair just out of place. But it came more intense. I went to a magnifying mirror to look, and I saw something go across my forehead at a faster pace. I remembered sitting behind the kids and thought about head lice, as I have never had it before. On the internet, it stated that head lice are fast moving, but I always thought they were slow. I panicked thinking that I would infect the entire house.
I remember my vet telling me that Ivermectin was used in 3rd world countries on people where parasites were really bad. I went to the closet where I keep the wormer and poured some in my hands and rubbed it on both arms. It did not take long for the itching to go away and there were no more head lice.
When worming cattle, I have had the Ivermectin to splash back on me, or get it on my hands, but I never had any kind of problem with it. So I felt I was safe to de-louse myself with it. It sure made me feel nasty when I realized what I had. All I knew was that I wanted to get rid of them immediately.

Momma would wash my head in kerosene then use tide detergent to get that out.

Momma would wash my head in kerosene then use tide detergent to get that out. ...chilling to think today that would constitute child abuse.

Ivomec never hurt anything except border collies. I don't think I've ever made it through an entire year of cattle work without a good worming and a tetanus booster.

Momma would wash my head in kerosene then use tide detergent to get that out. You had a good Momma for sure. Mine and my Granny would have used an ice pick and a zippo lighter to heat up the pointy end of it.

That because a bunch of lazy assed people just don't give a dam and have a recurring problem all the time. Some of the local schools here will treat the kids but the parents won't clean up there house. So it starts all over again before its ever stopped.

Bed Bugs. My wife is allergic and got all bit up once from a 5 star motel in TX, and once when her and our son were on a big cruise ship, which she raised hell about and got nicely comped. I went to a reservation border school and there was a big lice problem there back in the late 60s and 70s. Same damn problem that randy just posted.

There are loads of things, including lice, coming over the borders. Then we have all these people not giving their children immunization. Weβre having mumps and measle outbreaks again like the 60βs.
