Tomorrow the local ranchers get together and auction off the entire NFL. The money goes into the pot and pays off at 10% to the team with the worse record. 10% to the losers of the divisional championship game. 20% to the loser of the super bowl. And 50% to the super bowl winner. I went to the auction last year and sat on my hands. After the smoke cleared there was well over $4,000 in the pot. There was only one team that brought in less than $100. New England sold for over $300. So which team do you think I should buy?

Chargers might be a good bet. I think the Vikings will be muchly improved but I doubt they can go all the way.

Right now I am thinking KC has a real good shot at the final four. But I need to see what they sell for tonight. And the Dolphins have a good shot at the worse record. Last year there were middle of the road teams which have no shot at the play offs but too good to be the worse record that sold for $150. The way some of these ranchers were bidding you would think there is money in cattle.

There might be money in cattle when you can run your cattle on public land for less than the taxes. It's a good gig y'all have out there till the government decides to lease public property to the highest bidder....like they should.

You mean lease it to the Saudis, the Argentinians, Cargill, JBS , the chi coms..et al? That might be what would happen. But I'd be more inclined to think the tree huggers or hunting outfitters would end up with it. The government could issue some land lease tags on the property and the outfitters would be bidding like crazy for the privilege to guarantee a hunt license for their clients. The state of Georgia is paying $15 an acre to lease land for the public to use for hunting and fishing. And in Canada they also put bids out to theoutfitters for hunting rights to guide on.

One of my neighbors owns something like 30,000 acres. There is a pretty good sized block of landlocked BLM in the middle of his land. There is an outfitter who flies their clients into that BLM with a helicopter. There was a study a few years back comparing the cost to run cattle on BLM pasture and private leased pasture. At that time they calculated it cost around $19.25 a month per cow on the private ground. It cost $19.75 a month to run a cow on BLM. Certainly that cost isn't in the lease. Size, remoteness, and ruggedness increase the cost to do anything. There are some real good reasons that this land wasn't homesteaded back in the day. And that is the reason it still belongs to the government. You might recall those water troughs me and the neighbor have to install. It took me 2 and a half hours to drive the quad up there and back to the house. How much travel time do you have to go out and check the water?

Well I didn't get any teams bought tonight. The middle of the road teams sold cheaper than last year. The teams with a real chance I felt sold pretty good. I went to $225 on KC. They sold for $235. I took the Rams to $200. They brought $225. New England brought $350. I didn't raise my hand. The total dollars in the pot is $3960. One of the buyers of the two teams in the Super Bowl has to host a Super Bowl party. Last year over 50 people attended. So on the bright side I don't have to host the party.

Dave I was a die hard Tom Landry fan. There is just no wind left in my sails any more. It seems to be all about "me" in the football leagues any more.

Won't be long before NFL active player 'personalities' will be running the teams like has been happening with NBA...already happening in some, like A. Brown at Oakland

I should have bought Indy for $60 and gone for the loser money. I didn't know that Luck had retired on Saturday and their backup ain't much. Oh well, I got to have fun and bid but I didn't have to fork over any cash. And I get to go to the Super Bowl party hosted by somebody else.

I see where Case Keenum has gotten the nod to start regular season game 1 for the Redskins. I'm happy to see that happen and hope he does good. I hope he's still starter when the skins play the vikings and he whups their butts.

I haven't had a chance to watch much football. I caught the KC - Indy game last night. To think I was trying to buy KC as a season winner and thought that I should have bought Indy as the worst record. Good thing I kept my money in my pocket.
